Bard stifled by RPI, 43-33

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's basketball team scored 18 points off of 30 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute turnovers and held the Engineers to 43 points on Tuesday night.

But RPI outrebounded Bard, 49-36, and blocked 10 shots en route to a 43-33 Liberty League victory.

It was a defensive struggle from the start. Although Bard made 5-of-29 shots in the first half, the Raptors trailed by just six, 18-12, at halftime. That's because RPI's shooting was marginally better and the Engineers turned the ball over 15 times.

Bard was held scoreless for the first five-plus minutes of the second half, however, and RPI gradually pulled away. The lead grew to as much as 18 down the stretch as the Engineers shot 46 percent from the field in the second half.

Senior Amanda Lynch (Middletown, NY) led the winners with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Shaina Iton (Peekskill, NY) added eight points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks. RPI is 8-6 overall, 4-1 in the Liberty League.

Bard (4-8, 0-4) got 13 points and seven rebounds from Bianka Bell, and 11 points, 17 rebounds and four steals from Tytravia Riley. Riley has 993 career points heading into Friday's game at Rochester Institute of Technology.
