ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team was playing without a few injured starters on Saturday, and after a solid start against NYU, the Raptors were on their heels.
NYU dominated possession after the first 10 minutes, dominated shots on goal and corners, but at the end of regulation had nothing to show for it. The Violets had managed just three shots on goal to none for Bard, but it was the Raptors who had the best chance to score when Emily's Weisman's corner kick hit the far post in the first half. Bard entered overtime hoping to survive and earn a tie; NYU entered overtime hoping to make it all worth it.
It turned out to be worth it.
Melissa Menta (Somers, NY) ran onto a fine pass from Lexi Clarke (Round Hill, VA) on the left wing and scored from a tough angle to the far post in the 94th minute to give NYU a 1-0 victory. NYU finished with a 17-3 edge in shots and 8-5 in corners, but really made the most of its one good opportunity to score.
Defensively, Bard got great performances from
Margot Kalach Hanono,
Gina Lewis,
Joanna Regan and
Hallie Nolan.
Bard (3-4-1) produced a couple of corners early, and Weisman's corner hit the far post and bounced directly in front of the goal but was cleared in the final minutes of the first half.
Lily Harris made three saves.
Up next for Bard is a home game against Purchase on Wednesday night at 7. Follow that gave via Live Stats if you can't make it.
