POULTNEY, Vt. - The Bard College men's soccer team rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Green Mountain College, 3-1, in a non-league game on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (3-2-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when freshman Jordan Manikas (Springfield, NY) headed a cross from Mike Ellis (Deansboro, NY) into the upper left corner. It was the freshman's fifth goal in five games.
The Raptors (4-3-0) responded five minutes later. Sophomore
Austin Higgins settled a long throw-in from freshman
Shaw McCabe, deked to his left and beat the GMC keeper low and left to tie the score.
Freshman
Nick Shenberger put Bard up 2-1 less than two minutes later, in the 22nd minute. He received a through ball from Higgins and beat the keeper from eight yards out.
Later, in the final minute of the first half, a shot by
Mark Mannara hit the post and rolled along the goal line, where Shenberger found it and punched it for a 3-1 halftime lead. That's how it stayed.
Shots were 15-13 in favor of Bard; GMC had seven corners to Bard's five.
Daniel Gagne made two saves.
Up next for Bard: A road game at College of Mount St. Vincent on Wednesday night.
