Box Score 2 WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team lost twice to Vassar College on Saturday afternoon, 7-1 and 17-3, in a Liberty League twinbill.
The Brewers can clinch a Liberty League playoff berth if they can sweep Bard on Sunday in Poughkeepsie.
Vassar has a pair of freshman pitchers who have been stellar this spring, and the Brewers used them both on Saturday. Adam Erkis (Villanova, PA) threw a two-hit complete game in the opener, and Trent Berg (Milton, MA) gave up two runs over seven innings to earn the win in the nightcap.
led off with a bunt single, then stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. After
Jack Hawke walked, Berg bobbled a Montecalvo sacrifice bunt, so Fisher scored while Hawke and Montecalvo were each safe. They moved to second and third on a wild pitch, which brought up Carafotes.
Carafotes flied out to right field, and Hawke tagged up and was gunned out at the plate for a double play. Bard finished the inning with just one run.
Vassar took the lead with two in the top of the second, and it was 6-1 going into the bottom of the fifth. Fisher walked with one out, and Hawke followed with a single. They moved to second and third, respectively, on an outfield error. A groundout by Montecalvo allowed Fisher to score, trimming the lead to 6-2.
Bard scored again in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-3. Carafotes singled and moved to second on sacrifice by Ward.
Dylan Long followed with an RBI single.
The Brewers scored three in the seventh, one in the eighth, and seven in the ninth to put the game away. Brett Zazisky (Randolph, NJ) went 2-for-5 with a double, homer and four RBI. Jason Garfinkle had four hits and Wuenschell drove in three runs.
Fisher went 2-for-3 with a walk for the Raptors, who played their last home game at Dutchess Stadium. Bard's new baseball facility, Honey Field, will be completed this summer.
