ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Vassar College men's volleyball team limped into the Stevenson Athletic Center on Wednesday night with a juggled, banged up lineup.

Bard left with one.

Vassar swept the United Volleyball Conference matchup, 25-12, 25-23 and 27-25, and although it wasn't a thing of beauty, it did snap a six-match losing streak for the visitors.

The Raptors have gone the entire season with a rotation of six players, so hearts were in throats when senior Billy Williams tweaked a chronic back injury in the second set, and left the court. A few points later, unbelievably, sophomore Jesse Small went down after re-injuring what looked like his already-taped ankle.

Considering it was Bard's 21st match of the season, many against nationally-ranked opponents, perhaps the Raptors are lucky that all six starters have been able to play every match. Williams did get back in there, although he clearly wasn't himself, and Small never came off the court but was clearly hobbled.

Not that Bard was going to get sympathy from Vassar, which was down three starters due to a recent injury bug. The Brewers came out firing, hitting .500 in the first set with no errors and won it, 25-12.

The second set was closer, but Bard never led after 1-0 and lost the set, 25-23.

In the third set, the Raptors rallied and had a set point and 25-24 but couldn't close it out. Vassar took it 27-25 and improved to 5-14 overall, 2-6 in the UVC.

Bard is 4-17, 1-7 in the UVC.

Senior Joe Pyne (Los Angeles, CA) led Vassar with 19 kills, hit .400, and added nine digs. Colin White-Dzuro (Toronto, ONT) had 37 assists, and Trey Cimorelli (Orchard Park, NY) had 14 digs.

Williams had nine kills and six digs for Bard. Henry Kasiske had 21 assists and eight digs, and Alex Adams chipped in with three kills, eight digs and three block assists.

The walking wounded from both teams are headed to a UVC Crossover at Elmira this weekend. Vassar will play Medaille, Penn State-Behrend and Hilbert; Bard will play 10th-ranked Nazareth, 11th-ranked Elmira and D'Youville.
