Men's volleyball team loses pair on first day of Springfield Invitational

Bard will play #1 Rivier and #3 New Paltz on Saturday.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Bard College men's volleyball team lost a pair of matches on the first day of the Springfield Invational on Friday.

The Raptors lost to second-ranked Springfield, 3-0, then lost to Johnson & Wales, 3-1.

Set scores for Springfield were 25-16, 25-19 and 25-12. The Pride hit .521 for the match and got 12 kills (.400) from freshman Sean Zuvich (San Pedro, CA). Luis Garcia Rubio (Bayamon, PR) had 38 assists, and Matthew Peretto (Vallejo, CA) led the team with 13 digs. Springfield is 10-4 overall.

For Bard, Billy Williams had nine kills (.438), Daniel Gagne added six kills and four digs, and Henry Kasiske had 22 assists.

Johnson & Wales defeated Bard 25-11, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-19. Senior Shawn Kennedy (West Barnstable, MA) had 17 kills (.406), and his brother Ryan added 12 kills and 14 digs. Junior J.J. Bessette (Coventry, RI) had 43 assists.

For Bard, sophomore Alex Adams led the way with eight kills and six digs; Kasiske had 24 assists and eight digs; Williams had four kills and eight digs, and Jesse Small had six kills and four digs.

The tournament continues on Saturday. Bard (3-9) will play top-ranked Rivier College at 10:30 a.m., then third-ranked New Paltz at 2:30 p.m. You can follow both matches via Live Stats right here.
