GENEVA, N.Y. - In spite of being down, 2-0, at halftime, the Bard College women's soccer team had to be feeling pretty good at the break.
In two previous meetings against William Smith College, the defending national champions, Bard had not produced a single shot - on goal or otherwise. But at halftime on Friday, shots were 8-2 in favor of William Smith and shots on goal were 3-2.
The Herons, however, turned it on the second half. They outshot Bard 19-0 and ran away with a 6-0 Liberty League victory to improve to 7-2-0 overall, 2-0-0 in the conference.
Sophomore Brie Ruane (Roslyn Harbor, NY) scored a pair of goals 60 seconds apart early in the second half and that broke the game open. Nicole McGlinchy (Twinsburg, OH) made two saves for the Herons.
Kelsey O'Brien made one save and
Lily Harris made three for the Raptors, as they split the goaltending duties.
Avalon Qian and
Krysta Jurkovic produced the two shots on goal for Bard.
The Raptors face another tough Liberty League opponent on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Rochester Institute of Technology. Kick off is at 2 p.m.
