ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team tried everything to get defending Liberty League champion Hobart to panic on Saturday afternoon.

The Raptors (1) shot 55 percent from the field in the first half, (2) limited preseason All-American Richie Bonney to five first-half points, and (3) refused to go away when Hobart came back to take the lead in the second half.

But Hobart didn't flinch. The Statesmen took opportunities as they came, clamped down on defense, limited Bard to 25 second-half points and made 15-of-16 free throws down the stretch to pull away and defeat Bard, 71-59.

It wasn't easy, but a brief period of cold shooting from Bard in the second half provided Hobart the opportunity it sought to get the lead. The game was tied for the eighth and final time at 41-41 with 12:09 left. The Statesmen put together a 15-8 run to take a seven-point lead, and Bard didn't get closer than four the rest of the way.

Senior Joe Gibbons (Lindenhurst, NY) led the way with 20 points, and junior Connor Rehbaum (Cheektowaga, NY) added 18 points and seven rebounds. Bonney finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

For Bard, Lamar Powell finished with 20 points and six rebounds, sophomore Brandon Cunningham added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Alex Fabean-Scotch contributed 10 points.
