Volleyball team drops two on first day of UVC Crossover at New Paltz

Bard junior Henry Kasiske had nine kills, 33 assists and 13 digs over the course of two matches on Saturday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW PALTZ - The Bard College men's volleyball team took a set in a United Volleyball Conference match for the first time this season, but still came away with two losses on the first day of a UVC Crossover.

The Raptors opened the day with a 3-0 loss to 8th-ranked Medaille, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-16.

In the first set, Medaille was up 11-10 before going on a 10-2 run to take it. The second set was tied, 15-15, before the Mustangs rattled of four straight points. Bard cut the lead to 20-19 but Medaille closed the set out, 25-19. Bard never led in the third set.

In that match, junior Henry Kasiske led Bard in three categories: Kills (5), assists (12) and digs (7).

Later in the day, Bard lost a 3-1 decision to D'Youville. Set scores for the winners were 25-17, 25-19, 25-27 and 25-13. Bard had a 12-11 lead in the first set before dropping it. The Raptors never led the second set, but took the third set with a rousing comeback.

The Raptors got up early (8-4), only to see the Spartans draw close and then take the lead (14-12). The match went back and forth until 25-25, and Bard closed it out with a kill from freshman Zack Nussdorf and a shared blocked from Nussdorf and Billy Williams.

Bard got down 10-4 in the fourth set and never threatened. D'Youville is 9-9 overall, 3-5 in the UVC.

In that match, Nussdorf finished with eight kills, Kasiske had 21 assists, and Jose Mendez had 11 digs. Bard is 3-16 overall, 0-9 in the UVC.

On Day 2 of the UVC Crossover, Bard will take on 15th-ranked Elmira at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Soaring Eagles stunned 9th-ranked NYU in four sets on Saturday.
