Bard battles, loses to first-place Hobart

Sophomore Siondueh Burnette had 18 points and five rebounds in a loss to Hobart on Friday night.
Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. - In the first half of Friday night's game, the Bard College men's basketball team shot 44 percent from the floor. Hobart College, the preseason favorite and current first place team in the Liberty League, shot 42 percent.

Hobart was up, 37-20, at halftime.

How? In those first 20 minutes, Hobart had a 17-10 rebounding advantage and no turnovers, which led to 10 more field goal attempts.

In the end, Bard had one of its best-shooting games of the season (46%) and held Hobart without a field goal over an eight-minute stretch in the second half, but still lost, 62-45.

Powerful Hobart (10-6 overall, 6-1 Liberty League) ran out to a big lead in the first half, then extended that 17-point bubble to 22 with 12:30 remaining in the game. Bard (4-12, 1-8 Liberty League) rallied over the course of Hobart's long scoreless stretch, trimming that 22-point lead to 11 after a Siondueh Burnette jumper with 6:57 left.

The Raptors didn't get closer.

The Dutchmen got 17 points and eight rebounds from junior Richie Bonney (Norwich, NY) and 11 points from sophomore Connor Rehbaum (Cheektowaga, NY).

Bard got 18 points and five rebounds from Burnette, and nine points from sophomore Chris McNaughton. Up next for the Raptors is another Liberty League game at RIT on Saturday at 4.
