Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - When the Bard College men's basketball team won its first-ever game in the Liberty League last season, it was a huge night for the program. The Raptors have won two league games since, but that first one was a big deal at the time.
Ever since, the Raptors have been looking to take the next step. To make a statement. To create the next landmark in the program's history.
On Friday night, league powerhouse Union College visited, and the opportunity to take that step presented itself. With Bard down three in the final minute, the Raptors buckled down defensively and tried to get a stop.
Union senior Keven Donohue (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) had torched Bard for 28 points by that point, so the Raptors did the wise thing. They forced someone else to beat them.
And he did.
Union senior Evan Croll (Vernon, NY) hit a three-pointer with 32 seconds left to push Union's lead to six, and it proved to be the dagger as the Dutchmen hung on for a 63-58 victory.

It didn't look good with eight minutes to go in the first half and Union up 22-10. But a 15-5 run over those last eight minutes trimmed Union's lead to 27-25 at halftime.
In the second half, Bard hung in there. Union's lead never got bigger than eight, and Bard cut it to one three times. With 2:14 left in the game, Union was up eight, 56-48. A three-pointer by
Lamar Powell, two free throws by
Jeremy Arnstein, and a layup by
Chris McNaughton cut Union's lead to 58-55 with 58 seconds remaining in the game.
Union's next possession went deep into the shot clock, and with the boisterous crowd going crazy as they searched for an open look, senior Matt Petrone (Utica, NY) found Croll beyond the arc up top, and Croll drilled it.
Donohue, a 6-foot-7 shooter who was a handlful all night, calmly hit two free throws with 18 seconds left to seal it. He finished with 30 points on 9-of-18 shooting and went 9-for-10 from the line. Nobody else scored in double figures for the Dutchmen.
Powell led Bard with 13 points and two steals; McNaughton and
Frank Stortini added nine points apiece, and Stortini led the team with nine rebounds.
Siondueh Burnette added eight points, four rebounds and two blocks.
Bard's next opportunity comes on Saturday, when Skidmore comes to town for a 4 p.m. contest. You can follow it right here via Live Stats or Live Video.
