Box Score 2 BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Bard College women's volleyball team, which had lost a pair of five-set matches just three games into the season, got to experience the exhilaration of
winning a five-set match on Saturday.
And it was against an unbeaten team, no less.
Bard swept two matches on the final day of the Newbury Invitational, defeating Johnson State College, 3-0, and host Newbury, 3-2. Newbury was 4-0 going into that last match.
Early Saturday, Bard handled winless Johnson State, 25-8, 25-16 and 25-14. Freshman
Tytravia Riley had six kills, five aces and three digs;
Cara Chalk and
Ruth Lakew added five kills apiece, and
Lexi Cooper had 16 assists and five aces.

Later, against Newbury, the Raptors (2-3) prevailed 25-12, 18-25, 23-25, 25-17 and 15-12.
Riley had a team-high 12 kills, Chalk had eight, and
Mai Aurell-Foulser added five kills, five aces and 13 digs. Cooper finished with 18 assists, six assists and five digs. Lakew led Bard in that match with 15 digs, and
Amy Kassowitz added 10 digs.
