Raptors lose five-setter in season opener

Sophomore Lexi Cooper had 42 assists over the course of two matches on Saturday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team got off to a hot start to the 2012 season, taking the first two sets from Manhattanville College as part of a tri-meet there on Saturday.

But Manhattanville rallied to beat Bard, 3-2. The Raptors lost to Marywood College, 3-0, later the same day.

Set scores against Manhattanville were 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 17-25 and 12-15. Bard freshman Tytravia Riley, playing in her first collegiate match, led the Raptors with 13 kills. She also had three aces and 19 digs. Junior Mai Aurell-Foulser also had a double-double with 10 kills and 19 digs.

Sophomore Amy Kassowitz added eight kills and 21 digs, while sophomore Lexi Cooper had 29 assists. Mariz Hoz had 21 digs, and freshman Anna Kornfeld added three kills, three aces and six digs.

Bard lost to Marywood 10-25, 18-25 and 9-25. Kassowitz and Riley had four kills apiece, and Cooper had 13 assists.

Up next for Bard is the Newbury College Tournament, next Friday and Saturday. The Raptors will play Rutgers-Camden, Johnson State and Newbury there.
