Bard's best defensive effort not enough vs. Ramapo

Bard freshman Victoria Fleisher makes her move during Saturday's game against Ramapo. She didn't score this time, but she did score later in a Bard loss.
Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team played one of its better defensive games of the season on Saturday, and got a great game from their goalie.

Still, Ramapo College rolled to a 12-1 victory, dimming the Raptors' Skyline Conference playoff hopes even further.

Junior Amanda Barretta (Roseland, N.J.) and freshman Michelle Gustafson (South Plainfield, N.J.) each scored three goals for the Roadrunners, who are 8-4 overall, 6-1 in the Skyline Conference.

Barretta scored just 31 seconds into the game - but it's stayed 1-0 for the next 10 minutes, and the Raptors were especially tough on defense, stopping Ramapo's repeated attempts to run plays out of their offensive sets.

Senior goalie Hannah Becker (Wayne, N.J.) played her best game of the season, making nine saves in the first half and 12 for the game. Ramapo was just too consistent on offense, however, and too difficult on defense for Bard to really make it a game. The Roadrunners outshot Bard, 34-10, had a 28-25 advantage in ground balls, and produced fewer turnovers (20-39).

Freshman Victoria Fleisher (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored the only goal for the Raptors midway through the second half.

Bard, 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the Skyline, next plays on Monday night on the road at Mount St. Vincent at 8 p.m.
