HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Rivier College men's volleyball team blocked Bard's attempt at an upset on Friday afternoon - literally.
Rivier collected 13.5 total team blocks to Bard's 3, and Bard was held to a negative hitting percentage for only the second time this year, and Rivier rolled, 3-0, by scores of 25-20, 25-12, and 25-19, at the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Tournament.
Rivier, the No. 2 seed and the ninth-ranked team in the country, is 32-8. Bard, the No. 15 seed, is 20-12.
The Raptors had a -.100 hitting percentage in the first set, and a -.269 hitting percentage in the second set. For the match, Bard totalled 21 kills - but had 29 hitting errors - the most it had in any three-set match this season.
The only other match in which Bard was held to a negative hitting percentage was against Nazareth back on Feb. 6. Nazareth is the No. 1 seed at this tournament.
Junior
Nick Chan (Victor, N.Y. ) led Bard with 11 kills, but he managed just a .077 hitting percentage. Freshman
Henry Kasiske (Los Angeles, Calif.) collected 18 assists, while freshman
Billy Williams (Livingston, N.J.) and junior
Andrew Cortrite (Los Angeles, Calif.) had seven digs apiece.
Rivier's top hitter, senior Jared Andreozzi (Barrington, R.I.) had nine kills but was held to a .095 hitting percentage. He did collect six block assists, however.
Bard will now await the Monday announcement of the field for the Eastern College Athletic Conference men's volleyball tournament. There is a chance that Bard will host.
