ALBANY, N.Y. - In an effort to make a difference in the Skyline Conference playoff chase, Bard came up short.

In a game that was crucial to Sage, Bard rallied from a 19-point halftime deficit to trail by just six with 3:18 to go, but Sage pulled it out, 87-77.

Bard (2-21 overall, 2-16 Skyline) was down 11 at halftime and was down 19 with 13:54 left in the game. A 23-11 run cut the lead to seven with 6:03 left, and things got interesting.

When senior Christian Marghella (Closter, NJ) made a layup with 3:18 left, it was 74-68, the closest Bard had been since five minutes were gone in the first half. Sage scored on its next two possessions, then made six consecutive foul shots to hold the Raptors off.

Bard made seven three-pointers in the second half to spur the rally. Junior Matt Shubert (West Chester, PA) scored 15 of his game-high 25 points in the second half; Greenstein scored all 15 of his points in the second half; and sophomore Frank Stortini (Red Hook, NY) scored all 10 of his points in the second half.

But Sage (13-11, 10-9 Skyline) had five players score in double figures, led by senior Lamont Garland (Albany, NY) who had 20 points.

Bard next plays on Saturday at home at 4 against SUNY Old Westbury. Marghella, the only senior on the team, will be honored as part of Senior Day activities.
