Professor Brooke Jude was appointed the Faculty Athletic Representative in the Fall of 2024.
Professor Jude has been teaching at Bard since 2009, in the biology program. She is a microbial geneticist with a research focus on a collection of bacterial species native to the Hudson Valley, and beyond, that all produce a vibrant purple pigment. Her work spans field sample collections and laboratory experiments, as well as interdisciplinary projects that incorporate natural textile dyeing practices.
Jude graduated from Colby College in 2000, double majoring in biology and religious studies. During her undergraduate years, she played for the Colby Women's Rugby Football Club, serving as forward's captain and club president. Jude went on to receive her PhD from Dartmouth College/Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies in Molecular and Cellular Biology/Microbiology & Immunology.
In addition to her teaching role, Jude communicates with incoming Bard students throughout the summer months about the academic advising and college matriculation process. During Language and Thinking, she organizes academic introduction panels and academic orientations and connects students with Registration Advisors to select courses for their first semester in Annandale.
Professor Jude is also the Director of the Bard Houses program, where she oversees the House Professors who are faculty in residence, as they build communities, aimed at helping students feel welcome and at home the moment they step onto campus.
While living on campus, Jude and her family are active members of the Bard Raptors fan community, attending many games, matches and meets, and encouraging other students and community members to attend and cheer students on as well.
