Jenna Sommer came to Bard in the summer of 2016.
A native of Kerhonkson, N.Y., Sommer became a year-round swimming competitor at age 8, through USA Swimming. She swam competitively until she was 18, then left for Div. I Stony Brook University.
During her time at Stony Brook, funding issues with a necessary renovation of the natatorium made it impossible for her to compete in a college meet. She still attended every practice at 7 a.m. and prepared for Div. I competition.
She graduated in 2016 with a degree in Environmental Design, Policy and Planning, with a minor in Sustainability Studies.
