ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College women's basketball team could not overcome the St. Lawrence Saints, 45-61 Friday night at Stevenson Athletic Center. The Raptors held the Saints to their fourth-lowest total of the season, in large part due to St. Lawrence making a season-low five free throws.

Morgan Kottka and Shirley Dong scored double-digits, with 15 and 13, respectively. Kottka got a career-high by going 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-6 from three. Dong also shot efficiently, with 5-of-9 from the field and 3-of-4 from distance.

Lexi Miller had a game-high 12 rebounds in addition to four points, three assists, and a steal. Erin Tobes had seven off the bench, picking up three rebounds and an assist. Aislynn Dixon and Ava Gregory each hit three-pointers, with Gregory adding six rebounds.

In the first quarter, Dong started out the scoring with a layup, but the Saints struck back with 14 straight points. Kottka settled down the Raptors with a score on the Raptors' final offensive possession of the frame, but the deficit was 14-4 heading into the second.

The Raptors prevented St. Lawrence from scoring in the first 2:54 of the second quarter, allowing them to get within four at 14-10 after back-to-back threes from Dong. At 4:44, Bard responded to a fastbreak layup by finding Dixon from beyond the arc to stay within five at 23-18. Less than two minutes later, Gregory drained a triple – Bard's fourth of the period – to get within four yet again, 25-21. However, a scoring drought in the remaining 2:34 of the quarter allowed St. Lawrence to take a 31-21 lead into the locker room.

Bard had a slight edge in the third quarter, 14-13. Despite 10 points from Jackie Malley, the Saints could not generate easy scoring opportunities. The Raptors limited turnovers in the frame, only committing two errors. The Saints had as much as an 11-point lead at 34-23, but from that point forward, Bard outscored St. Lawrence 10-2 to make it a one-possession game with 4:38 to play in the third. That was when Malley took over, scoring seven straight to extend the lead back to ten.

Kottka struck from the field first in the fourth, hitting a three at the 9:05 mark to make it 44-39. However, St. Lawrence went on a 9-0 run over a 3:09 span to finalize proceedings. Overall, Bard shot slightly better, 34% to 33%, including a 30% to 29% edge from three. St. Lawrence made up for it in the turnover category and the offensive rebounding battle, generating 22 more shots.

The Raptors will hope to bounce back against Clarkson tomorrow at 2 p.m.
