ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's soccer team gained a lead in the first half. The Raptors recorded a season-high 26 shots, defeating the CCNY Beavers 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Stormy weather pushed the start time of the match an hour and a half, but the rain subsided late in the afternoon.
Ben Steketee scored the first goal at the 6:23 mark, as he perfectly timed his cut into the box, allowing
Mateo Betelu to find him from the right side of the box. This is Steketee's first back-to-back goal, as he scored the game-winning goal against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and the goal against CCNY.
The Raptors added to their lead in the first half. In the 31st minute, a free kick outside the box allowed the Raptors to set up a play.
Emmett Olson found a cutting Betelu, who back-tapped the ball to
Henry Skeltis, setting up a clean finish to the right side of the goal.
In the second half, Bard controlled the pace, settling down in their own half with possession. The Raptors picked their spots wisely, playing patiently and pulling the defense out to find holes. Bard picked up six corner kicks and recorded 11 shots in the half, but came up empty. The Beavers had just one corner, but they capitalized on it, scoring a goal with just over five minutes remaining. That raised the intensity of the game, with the CCNY bench growing in volume and the Bard players attacking with more purpose.
Skeltis, Olson,
Zac Sparacio, and
James Bird played the whole 90 minutes. Betelu tallied a career-high nine shots in addition to his two assists.
Bard will host Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. start.
