ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's soccer team took down Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday night at Lorenzo Ferrari Field, 2-0, as the Raptors had to play a man down the whole second half.
Bard took control of the game in the first half, scoring five minutes into the game from a cross by
Mateo Betelu to an open
Luca Costanzo in the middle of the box. Betelu skillfully evaded two defenders to send the ball on the left-hand side for his fourth goal of the season, setting a career season high of four goals in only five games played. He had a season high of three goals during his first year.
In the first half, the Raptors had 60% of possession, with 57% of it being on the Gryphons' side of the field. Bard had a 10-4 shots on goal advantage and 7-0 corner advantage. The second half was a different story, as the Raptors went a man down with three minutes left in the first half. Head Coach
TJ Kostecky had to shift the formation to a 4-4-1 to allow Bard to become more defensive but still have an opportunity to attack.
Julian Landau had his fifth start of the year and had three saves, while
Jake Sudit had his first penalty corner save in the 61:18 mark. The Gryphons' Connor Saul could not convert the penalty kick as he shot the ball on the bottom right side, but Sudit was able to read the ball. No first-year has saved a penalty kick since at least 2012.
Bard will travel to Pratt on Saturday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
