| By:

QUEENS, N.Y. – The Bard College women's tennis team forced the Pratt Pioneers to play their best tennis on Sunday evening, ending in a 6-1 scoreline.

Maria Castro/Paige Houghton had a clutch come-from-behind victory at No. 1 doubles. The duo broke at 4-5, saved three break points at 5-5, and broke to win the set at 6-5. At No. 2 doubles, Natalie Lagunes and Catherine Chapel were in each game but the pace of Pratt was too much. At No. 3 doubles, the Bard combo of Jesse Radzik and Patricia Santos got two games.

At No. 1 singles, Castro surged back from a 2-6 first set, taking the second set 6-2 and the match tiebreak 10-3. She moved to 5-0 in singles with the win. Houghton played at No. 2 singles, where six deuce games all went the Pioneers' way. Lagunes had a tough fight at No. 3 singles, taking a game in the first set.

At No. 4 singles, Santos battled to get three games. At No. 5 singles, Chapel got on the scoreboard in each set. At No. 6 singles, Radzik challenged her opponent and took two games.

Bard will send its top players to the ITA Fall Regionals on Friday at Skidmore, with times to be announced.
