Three first years earn first collegiate victories

QUEENS, N.Y. — The Bard College men's tennis team took three matches against the Pratt Pioneers, ultimately ending in a 3-4 decision. Nick Oh, Ivan Borshchev, and Peter Trimble all won their first collegiate matches in singles action.

Thanasis Kostikas/Nick Oh earned two games at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Blake Kendall and Ivan Borshchev made their mark, forcing a tiebreak in which they fell 5-7. Bard's team of Peter Trimble and Ciaran Chamberlain was able to scratch a game across at No. 3 doubles.

Kostikas played at No. 1 singles, taking a lead in the second set before the Pioneers found their rhythm. Oh dominated at No. 2 singles, where he didn't drop a game. At No. 3 singles, Borshchev won and fought through a close second set on the way.

At No. 4 singles, Kendall nearly took control of the match with a 5-4 lead, but his Pratt opponent closed it out with a couple of consistent games. At No. 5 singles, Chamberlain stabilized after the first set but it wasn't enough. Trimble played with poise and limited his unforced errors, which proved to be the difference.

The next match for Bard is October 1st at 4 p.m., when RPI comes to Annandale-on-Hudson.
