The Bard College women's soccer team dropped its match against the William Paterson Pioneers on Saturday afternoon, 2-0.
The first half was a midfield battle, with the Raptors taking one shot and the Pioneers taking three. Bard had the only corner of the half, with
Carina Cooke driving along the far side and kicking the ball off her defender at the 16:33 mark. The Pioneers broke up the corner kick, dispatching the ball out of bounds. Soon after, William Paterson made it 1-0 after a goal. At the 20:34 mark,
Camila Sandaal was disruptive on a Pioneers drive that threatened to
extend the lead. The Raptors' defense held until the Pioneers scored with 42 seconds left in the half.
Six minutes into the second half, Bard attempted two more corners.
Nikki Magnozzi forced the defense to collapse and give up the first corner, but the Raptors were unable to capitalize on the ensuing set piece. For the second corner, Bard looked for
Melania Hracs to hit a header out of the air, but the Pioneers' defense held. With 35:24 left in the game, Cooke sent a shot towards the net from outside the 18, testing the goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the shot was saved. The Raptors produced two more shots on goal, and their defense was solid the rest of the game, but the game remained 2-0.
McKenna Reeves and
Thayden Hamilton-Howard split time in goal for Bard, while Cooke, Sandaal,
Natalie Wing, and
Alexandria Loner played all 90 minutes.
The Raptors open their Liberty League schedule at home against Vassar for Youth Day at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
