RECAP: Women’s Lacrosse Completes Season at Rochester

The Bard College women's lacrosse team wrapped a bow on its 2025 season against the Rochester Yellowjackets on Friday afternoon.

Emerson Embrey led the team in goals, draw controls, and ground balls. Her four ground balls were also a game-high. Gwendolyn Jamison also got into the scoring column twice to tie Embrey. Izzi Popolizio and Maya Junkins each got a goal and an assist on offense, with Popolizio recording two draw controls. Maggy Peyton rounded out the scoring, adding a ground ball, a draw control, and a caused turnover.

Lexie Blackburn started in goal, tying her season-high of 13 saves. She added a ground ball to her tally. Victoria Rowe entered for the final period, recording a save. Rian Sullivan had a team-high two caused turnovers and added two ground balls. Ella Perreault recorded two ground balls and a caused turnover. Gwyn Downey contributed with a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Embrey swiped the opening draw control, allowing the Raptor offense to go to work. Gwendolyn Jamison scored the first goal of the game at the 12:54 mark. Rochester answered, but Bard took the lead on an Embrey free position shot at 10:22. Unfortunately, the Yellowjackets scored the next six goals in the period. With 1:38 to go, Embrey sunk another free position shot to make the score 3-7. Rochester's goal leader, Alyssa Gorny, scored her 50th goal of the season to begin the second period, sparking a 9-0 run.

Bard's defense allowed ten fewer goals in the second half. Popolizio scored less than three minutes into the third period, and Junkins found Peyton for a power play goal less than four minutes later. With 4:59 remaining, Jamison found the back of the net for her second goal of the game. A low scoring fourth period ended with just two goals from Rochester. Popolizio dished to Junkins with 44 seconds remaining for Bard's only goal in the period. In the final frame, Bard held the ground ball advantage, 6-4.

Embrey finished the season leading the team in three categories with 31 goals, 40 points, and 54 draw controls. Popolizio had 15 assists, vaulting her into the number one spot in program history in career assists (65). Her 33 points in 2025 gave her 134 career points, which ranks third in program history. Ruhle accumulated 58 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers this season, both the most on the team. She reached third on Bard's all-time leaderboard in career ground balls (146). Her season ranks fifth in program history for most caused turnovers, and her career total of 68 ties her for third all-time with Nicole Ellin. Blackburn's 90 saves this season brought her to 347 career saves, which is second most in Raptor history. Peyton reached 98 draw controls for her career, placing her fifth in program history.
