The Bard College women's lacrosse team was within striking distance against the Vassar Brewers but fell on the road Wednesday night. The Raptors held the edge over Vassar in draw controls for the first time since 2015, finishing with a 15-12 advantage.
Emerson Embrey set a career-high seven draw controls. Embrey,
Maggy Peyton, and
Gwendolyn Jamison each scored twice, keeping Bard in the game. Embrey added four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Peyton had an assist, three draw controls, and two ground balls with her two goals.
Izzi Popolizio had a goal, an assist, two ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover in an all-around performance.
Morgan Ruhle had four ground balls, tying a game-high, contributing two caused turnovers and a draw control.
Ella Perreault caused a game-high three turnovers, collecting two ground balls as well.
Lexie Blackburn had nine saves, three ground balls, and a caused turnover in the effort.
Maya Junkins picked up two draw controls,
Gwyn Downey had a ground ball and a draw control, and

The Raptors applied pressure in the first period, resulting in a 3-0 lead in free position attempts and a 3-1 edge in draw controls. However, Vassar saved all four of Bard's shots on goal while getting goals or assists from five different Brewers. Jamison scored the Raptors' first goal less than two minutes into the second period, with Peyton getting the assist. Peyton then took it herself at the 7:07 and 0:51 marks, making it 3-7 at halftime. Jamison started the second half with a bang, scoring 27 seconds in. Unfortunately, Vassar had a 5-0 run in response. Bard went on a 3-1 run to chip away, with two goals from Embrey and a goal from Popolizio. However, the Brewers made a defensive stand over the last seven minutes to prevent a comeback.
The Raptors' finale will take place on Friday, as Bard visits Rochester at 2 p.m.
