ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y – The Bard College women's lacrosse team scrapped but could not get the win against the Clarkson Golden Knights on Saturday at Ferrari Field.
Emerson Embrey scored three goals, had three draw controls, and had four ground balls, all of which led the Raptors.
Izzi Popolizio had two assists, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.
Maya Junkins had two goals, which set a new career-high.
Ella Perreault was active, scooping up three ground balls and causing a turnover.
Maggy Peyton had two ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover.
Rian Sullivan also was productive with two draw controls, a ground ball, and a caused turnover.
Morgan Ruhle had a caused turnover, extending her streak of at least one caused turnover to 15 straight games, going back to last season.
Lexie Blackburn played the whole game in goal, saving 11 shots.
The Raptors had a tough first half, salvaged by Junkins' score at the very end of the first period. Popolizio drove past her defender, opening up a passing lane to Junkins, who scored at close range. The Raptors picked up seven ground balls in the second period, but couldn't break through as the Golden Knights extended their lead. After a Clarkson goal to start the third, Junkins had her second connection with Popolizio, scoring at the 11:50 mark. Embrey took the next draw control all the way to the goal and ripped a shot past the Golden Knights' goalkeeper. Embrey then turned defense into offense, stripping a Clarkson player of the ball and taking it coast-to-coast to finish the Raptors' 3-0 run. Embrey had a third score with 5:28 left in the game, but victory was out of reach.
The Liberty League slate continues for the Raptors – next up is Union on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Bard will be doing a fundraiser for Morgan's Message, a mental health foundation for student-athletes.
