RECAP: Women’s Lacrosse Squares off Against UNE

Perreault with season-high four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and first career assist

The Bard College women's lacrosse team fell behind early against the University of New England Nor'easters on Monday, eventually dropping the game 18-9.

Ella Perreault had a game-high and season-high four caused turnovers, a team-high four ground balls, along with her first career assist. Maggy Peyton had three goals, a season-best mark. She added two draw controls – in the past three games, Peyton has had multiple draw controls. Emerson Embrey had two goals and a career-high four assists, to add to three ground balls and two draw controls. Gwendolyn Jamison scored two goals and picked up a ground ball. Izzi Popolizio and Morgan Ruhle rounded out the scoring, with a goal apiece.

Rian Sullivan had a team-high four draw controls, making it back-to-back games with 4+ draw controls. She added two ground balls and one caused turnover. Lily Seale and Maya Junkins contributed two ground balls, while Junkins additionally won a draw control. Lexie Blackburn made eight saves, while Keira Redmond played the fourth period, making two saves.

Bard applied early pressure, with Embrey getting a shot on goal before Peyton capitalized on a Nor'easter green card to score the first goal of the game. UNE replied right off the draw control to tie the score. Both defenses were strong and did not allow a goal in the next nine minutes. The Nor'easters broke through, going on a 3-0 run to end the period. A yellow card from UNE allowed another man-up opportunity for the Raptors, which Popolizio used to her advantage, taking a pass from Embrey and scoring. Bard's offense was held in check until the 1:08 mark, when Embrey scored a man-up goal.

UNE started the second half with a goal 14 seconds in, but Bard scored as well – Perreault found Jamison for the Raptors' fourth goal. Embrey had a free position goal at the 1:47 mark followed by a Jamison goal in the waning seconds of the period to build some momentum. The Raptors eventually made it a 5-0 run, with a Ruhle goal and back-to-back scores by Peyton in the fourth period. Bard held UNE to three shots on goal in the final 15 minutes, finding five such opportunities for themselves. The Raptors' defense held UNE's fourth all-time goal scorer, Morgan White, to a season-low one goal.

The Raptors' Hilton Head trip culminates in an early 9:30 a.m. game on Wednesday against Eastern Connecticut.
