ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's soccer team picked up its first All-Liberty League Second Team performer since 2022 on Tuesday as the league office announced the 2025 All-Liberty League teams.
Mateo Betelu was named to the 2025 All-Liberty League Men's Soccer Second Team.
The last Raptor to make an All-Liberty League Second team was Caleb Ribeiro, who made the All-Liberty League Second Team in 2022. Betelu adds to his accolades, as he was an All-Liberty League Honorable Mention in 2023 as a first-year player.
Betelu led the conference in shots per game and was always the person who drew in 2-3 defenders. He averaged 4.31 shots per game, including three or more shots in nine of 13 games played this season. In Division III, he ranked t-15th in shots per game. He scored seven goals in 13 games for an average of 0.538 per game, good for third in the Liberty League. Betelu added four assists, giving him 18 points on the season. His 1.38 points per game also ranked third in the conference.Â
Betelu scored a hat-trick in the opening 3-2 win against SUNY Canton. It was the Raptors' first hat trick since Nick Shenberger in 2016. He went 3-for-3 on penalty kick attempts and scored two game-winning goals. Betelu played all 90 minutes in three games, and he scored in four straight games in September.
"Mateo has grown into one of the most exciting attacking players in our league," said head coach
TJ Kostecky. "He leads through his creativity, vision, and relentless drive to make a difference every time he steps on the field. We're proud of all he's accomplished."
