ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College women's soccer team battled hard against St. Lawrence, but could not hold off the Saints in the second half as the Raptors fell 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.
St. Lawrence took an early break in the first three minutes, finding an opportunity to score. Bard held down the fort after the early goal and kept the game even for 42 minutes. The Raptors had opportunities to create plays and take a shot on goal through quick transitions from defense to offense.
McKenna Reeves had some key saves in the first half and totaled five saves, while the back line of
Natalie Wing,
Camila Sandaal,
Molly Belfiore, and
Kaia Brady prevented SLU's offense from adding insurance goals.
In the second half, St. Lawrence again had a breakthrough in the first five minutes and scored again eight minutes later.
Mahlia Slaiby took a shot in the 59th minute but was saved.
Carina Cooke sent a rocket of a right foot from the 20-yard line, but was also saved. The Saints would add one more goal to seal the victory.
Thayden Hamilton-Howard had a career-high seven saves. Hamilton-Howard had three beautiful saves, including a right-hand diving save and two straight one-on-one saves.
Alexandria Loner dropped down to play right back after Brady came off in the first half. Cooke played the full 90 minutes with Sandaal, Loner and Wing.
Today's game was Bard's dedication game to the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
Bard will travel to Clarkson next Saturday for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
