RECAP: Men’s Soccer Loses Heartbreaker to RPI

| By:
Box Score The Bard College men's soccer team dropped a tough battle against RPI, 2-1, on Wednesday evening at ECAV Stadium in a Liberty League matchup.

RPI took a 1-0 lead after 37 minutes of play from a high left goal by Gianfranco Loli. Bard and RPI struggled to get any offensive shots in. Bard only took one shot, coming from Mateo Betelu, and the Engineers had two shots.

In the second half, both teams upped the aggression, with RPI taking a 6-4 shots advantage. Bard tied the game after Betelu took a foul inside the box, giving the Raptors a chance to even the score. Emmett Olson converted the penalty kick with a goal in the bottom right of the net.

With the game tied, both teams were fighting to find the game-winning goal. The Engineers found themselves with a free kick outside the 25 yards. Bard's defender tried to clear the free kick shot, but the header unfortunately went inside the net, giving RPI the 2-1 lead with 45 seconds left in the game.

Julian Landau started in goal and had one save, while Will Beane-Rosenberg came in the second half and had five saves.

Bard will return home and take on Ithaca for their first conference game in front of their fans with a 2 p.m. kick-off.
