ANNANDALE-ON HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard Women's Tennis team (2-1) took on Western Connecticut State (2-4) on Wednesday evening.

The brooms came out late at night, as the Raptors swept the Wolves 7-0 in a match that continued past 10 p.m.

Coach Mandy Gamble was overjoyed. "[I'm] so pumped about the win – the whole team contributed. That was a quality performance against a very tough opponent."

Senior Victoria Bagatcholon clinched the match at No. 6 singles, besting Aylina Razeq. Bagatcholon took her first singles win of the season in the victory.

At No. 1 doubles, Hanna Okalava/Isa Santos were able to dominate cross-court rallies against the Wolves' pair of Sophie Charbonneau/Diana Rebelo.

At No. 2 doubles, Maya Kelly and Paige Houghton won a close match against Sarah Cipriano and Brooke Stillman.

The Raptors' No. 3 team of Lisa Kyrtoka/Jesse Radzik were in a nail-biter against Aylina Razeq/Ava Ciampi, hitting twelve winners en route to completing the sweep in doubles. Kyrtoka clinched her first win with Radzik, and with tears of joy in her eyes, celebrated with the team.

"[That] was really special, and to see them so happy was wonderful," reflected Coach Gamble on the No. 3 doubles team.

Okalava played at the No. 1 singles spot, where she took down the Wolves' Cipriano.

Kelly toughed it out at No. 2 singles to defeat Rebelo, winning lengthy rallies and gaining confidence throughout. The team rallied behind Kelly on her birthday, gifting her balloons and flowers as a token of appreciation for the team captain.

At No. 3 singles, Houghton faced Charbonneau, winning two tiebreakers while losing just two points total. Down the stretch, Houghton won twelve of her last seventeen service points.

At No. 4 singles, Santos took down Ciampi in straight sets, performing at her best in crunch time. Down 4-5, Santos rallied to win the set 7-5. One of her strengths was returning Ciampi's serve, winning 78% of points on the Wolves player's second serve.

At No. 5 singles, Malaya Zabala-Cornejo faced off against Stillman, proving to be the steadier player. Zabala-Cornejo was one of two Raptors to record a 6-0 set, with the other being Okalava.

The Raptors will carry this performance into their next match on Friday against New Paltz, their first meeting with the Hawks since 2002.
