ANNANDALE-ON HUDSON, N.Y. – St. Joseph's all time leading goal scorer, Victor Naci, took the game's only goal on a breakaway as the Bard College men's soccer team lost their first match of the season on Saturday afternoon at Ferrari Field.
The Raptors started strong, five shots to the Bears' one after one half of play. The Raptors had their best chance on goal around the 36th minute when a cross found
Ben Steketee on the left side of the box, but bounced away before Steketee could take the shot into the open net.
The Raptors had a two-to-one advantage on corner kicks in the first half, along with a possession advantage of 58% to 42%.
Bard was back on the offense in the second half when they received a corner in the 59th minute.
Mateo Betelu took a shot on a header that sailed wide.
With seventeen minutes to go in the contest,
Logan Tondini picked up his second yellow card about a minute apart, sending him out of the game. With a man down for the Raptors, the Bears took advantage and with ten minutes remaining, Naci stormed up the field, receiving an eighty-yard pass from Matthew Kieblesz, and floated the ball over the goalkeeper's outstretched arms to give the Bears a lead that they would hold.
Landau had one save in the first half, while Beane-Rosenberg had two.
The Raptors will travel to Morrisville next Saturday at 2 p.m.
