ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's soccer team opened their season with a shutout win over Pratt Institute, 3-0, on Friday night at Ferrari Field.
Bard had a strong showing in the first half with a 12-2 shot advantage and 6-0 advantage in corner kicks but could not find the back of the net. The Raptors took control of the ball in the second half and were more aggressive. At the 63:13 mark, a perfect cross into the penalty box by senior Robbie Boyd set up junior Sam Gerber for a left footed strike to the bottom right corner of the goal.
After nine minutes, Bard took advantage of a foul just outside the box as sophomore Frankie Perera-Modica passed the ball quickly to Gerber for his second goal of the night. The third goal came from a beautifully timed header by sophomore Henry Skeltis off the corner kick by senior Cole Ewalt.
First-year goalkeepers Julian Landau and Will Beane-Rosenberg each had two saves, with Landau making his first collegiate start.
Bard finished the night with a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal and 12-0 corner kick advantage.
The Raptors will return tomorrow at Ferrari Field when they face SUNY Canton at 2 p.m.
