ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — Junior
Maggy Peyton scored eight goals to set a new school record for goals scored in a single game to help the Bard College women's lacrosse team defeat Centenary, 18-2, on Monday night at Ferrari Field.
The Raptors scored two or more goals in each period and shut out Centenary in three of the four periods. Peyton's eight goals surpassed the previous record of seven in a single game, held by Caleigh DeCaprio and
Sarah Child. She also had three draw controls, an assist and one caused turnover.
Junior
Izzi Popolizio, first-year
Gwendolyn Jamison and junior
Gloria Tucker each had multiple goals on the night. Popolizio had four goals and a team-high two assists. She is now second in the school record books for all-time career assists with 48. Jamison had her third hat trick of the season with three goals and a career-high of three assists. Tucker set a new personal record with two of her own. Tucker added four ground balls and first-year
Emerson Embrey scored one goal and had two ground balls.
Graduate student
Paige Gregg had two assists and three draw controls. First-year
Gwyn Downey had her first collegiate point with an assist in the fourth period, adding two ground balls. First-year
Ella Perreault had a team-high and career-high six ground balls. She also added two draw controls, two of which caused turnovers.
On the defensive end, the Raptors were perfect on clear attempts, going 22-22. Junior
Morgan Ruhle had four ground balls caused one turnover, while goalkeeper
Lexie Blackburn did not have any turnovers while adding two ground balls and 10 saves.
The Raptors had a hot start, scoring eight goals in the first period and five in the second. Centenary had a 13-9 draw control advantage, but Bard forced the Cyclones into 16 turnovers. At the start of the third period, Centenary scored back-to-back goals, but the Raptors shut the Cyclones down in the fourth period, holding them to just two shots on goal.
Bard will conclude their regular season on Thursday evening when they host Russell Sage at 6 p.m.
