ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team fought until the end in a very close match against Russell Sage, but came up short in their final home game of the season with the visitors winning 14-12.
The Raptors had five different players record goals with the first goal coming from
Izzi Popolizio in the thirteenth minute of play. Sage quickly retaliated with their first goal, but Bard would then take a 2-1 lead when first year
Emerson Embrey tallied one of her own. Goals by
Gloria Tucker and
Gwendolyn Jamison at the end of the first quarter and then at the beginning of the second quarter put an end to a short run by the Gators. Embrey saw her second goal of the evening come from a fast break advantage by the Raptors. Shortly after,
Maggy Peyton scored her 23rd goal of the season to finish the first half of play.
Sage opened the second half with two goals to pull away from the Raptors, but
Gwendolyn Jamison's second goal of the night gave Bard the momentum needed to mount a comeback with one minute left in the third quarter. After a Gator goal that put the visitors ahead 13-7, Bard took off on a 5-0 scoring run receiving two goals from
Izzi Popolizio, along with goals from
Gwendolyn Jamison,
Maggy Peyton, and
Emerson Embrey to bring the game to within one goal. Sage would finish the game with a goal coming in the closing minutes to seal the win against the Raptors.
Emerson Embrey,
Gwendolyn Jamison, and
Izzi Popolizio paced the Raptors with each player finishing the game with a hat-trick.
Izzi Popolizio also finished the game with two assists which now puts her first in career assists in a season with 24, and second all-time in career assists at Bard with 50.
Maggy Peyton ended the game with two assists of her own along with two goals. In the last game of her career,
Paige Gregg's two caused turnovers kept the Raptors close in their comeback in the final minutes.
Lexie Blackburn finished the game with 26 saves which places her first in the record books for saves collected in a single season and second all-time in Bard's history for career saves.
