RECAP: Women’s Lacrosse drops conference opener against Union

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard women's lacrosse team fell in their conference opener against Union College on the road on Wednesday evening. 

Union (2-1, 1-0) jumped out to an early lead, scoring three goals in four minutes to start the match against Bard (1-4, 0-1). The Raptors were able to hold the Garnet Chargers scoreless for an eight-minute span in the first half, but Union maintained control and went into the half up 14-0.

Bard earned its first goal in the 10th minute of the third quarter on an unassisted goal from Emerson Embrey, her seventh goal of the season. The Raptors got another in the third quarter with Gwendolyn Jamison's ninth goal of the season, and in the fourth quarter, Bard played Union even with each team scoring three goals. Morgan Ruhle, Maggy Peyton, and Nashua Poreda each had goals in the final quarter.

The Raptors received strong contributions from Izzi Popolizio, who had a pair of assists and two ground balls in the game. Paige Gregg and Emily Peck also had solid games with Gregg adding two ground balls and controlling three draws and Peck picking up two ground balls and causing two turnovers.  

Bard travels to Saratoga Springs for a Liberty League match against Skidmore College this Saturday at 2 pm before heading south for a match at SCAD-Savannah on Monday of the March break week.
