ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College men's squash team narrowly fell to Siena in the opening round of the Bard Round Robin before beating Swarthmore and battling against Vassar in the afternoon on Saturday at Stevenson Athletic Center. 

Against Siena, the Raptors picked up two matches at ladder 1 and ladder 3 as Artemy Mukhin and Faisal Jones won in three and four games, respectively. Mukhin did not lose a point, playing accurate shots in the corners. Jones split the first two games, then won a tight third game, sealing it on a deep backhand along the left side wall. He carried that momentum to win his first match in the fourth game. Jackson Sprinzen also picked up a game at ladder 6.

Later that afternoon, Bard took on Swarthmore and won 3-3, 10G-9G on the games tiebreaker. The Raptors flew through their three victories in 15 minutes or less, winning at ladder 1, ladder 5, and ladder 6. Mukhin's performance at the top garnered applause from fans as well as his opponent, controlling the front of the court throughout. Yashar Khan won his first collegiate match in straight sets. He was in a close third set before hitting a serve past his opponent to win, 14-12. Jackson Sprinzen also put a win in the books, dropping just three points. Although Jones didn't win his match overall, he contributed a valuable game to Bard's overall score, helping secure the team's victory.

Mukhin snatched a 3-1 win against Vassar at ladder 1, going on a 5-0 run to start the third game and a 9-0 run in the fourth game.

The Raptors head to Wesleyan to play the Cardinals on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 12:30 p.m.
