The Bard College Men's Soccer Team extended its unbeaten start to the season with a 5-1 victory at Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Saturday afternoon. Five different Raptors got on the scoresheet in the rout.
The Raptors were playing their second game in three days after a long layoff due to games that were postponed and canceled due to weather, and following Thursday night's 4-0 win at home against Sarah Lawrence, Bard got off to a slow start in Vermont.
The Badgers, despite being outshot by Bard 19-1 in the first half, actually took a lead into halftime, having gotten the only goal of the first session in the 33rd minute. It was the first time that the Raptors had trailed so far this season.
Bard (4-0) recovered in the second half and were able to take advantage of their advantage in possession and opportunities. Junior
Reed Campbell scored his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute off a pass from
Cole Ewalt, and the Raptors gained the lead just 37 seconds later after earning a penalty kick, with first-year
Emmett Olson converting for the first of his career.
The Raptors maintained their pressure for the rest of the half, and took a 3-1 lead in the 71st minute when first-year
Frankie Perera-Modica scored his third of the season.
Logan Tondini scored his second of the year five minutes later, with an assist from
Pablo Ortega. The pair switched roles for the final goal of the game, with Ortega scoring and Tondini getting the assist with just over a minute to play in the game.
Bard will return home for a Wednesday evening match against York at 5pm on Ferrari Field before traveling to Ithaca next Saturday to open Liberty League play at 2pm.
