Lindholm, Carrington to lead Bard Athletic Department

Bard College has named David Lindholm Director of Athletics & Recreation, and Stefanie Carrington Associate Director of Athletics & Recreation, it was announced Wednesday.

Lindholm has been the Interim Athletic Director since December of 2020. Carrington, who has been the Head Women's Volleyball Coach since 2013, will remain in that role until a replacement is hired.

"Varsity athletics, intramural teams and recreational activities are integral parts of the Bard experience and the appointment of this new leadership team marks a critical moment of  growth and development in these areas of campus and community life," said Dumaine Williams, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of the Early Colleges. "David and Stefanie both bring a great deal of expertise and understanding to their new roles and I look forward to supporting their vision for this new era of Bard Athletics."

Since his arrival at Bard in 2016, Lindholm has served as the assistant men's soccer coach, assistant men's and women's squash coach, and head coach for the track and cross-country programs. He was the Associate Athletic Director prior to serving as the Interim Athletic Director. A 2005 graduate of Middlebury College, Lindholm completed his Master's Degree in Sports Management at UMass in 2016, after seven years working for Major League Soccer clubs Chivas USA and the Colorado Rapids.

"Since I first stepped on campus in 2016, I recognized what an amazing place this is, and how committed, thoughtful, intelligent, and creative the students and staff are here," said Lindholm. "I am thrilled that the search committee has given Stefanie and me the opportunity to continue the work we have started over the last year, and grateful to Dumaine Williams, Leon Botstein, and the college for their support of our administrative team and the department as a whole."

Carrington coached both the men's and women's volleyball teams at Bard from 2013-16, and has been the women's coach since. She was named Senior Woman Administrator in 2020. She graduated from Marist College with a degree in Economics and a Minor in Music. She was the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year twice at Div. II Dominican College before coming to Annandale. She is also the founder and club director for New York Elite Volleyball, a not-for-profit organization focused on developing youth volleyball in the Hudson River Valley.

"The relationships I've built in my time at Bard have been extraordinarily enjoyable and rewarding and I'm really looking forward to expanding on that while working with a wider pool of student-athletes and colleagues in this new role. I think the Department of Athletics has such amazing energy and potential for continued growth and I'm excited to get to work alongside David to help continue the forward momentum."
