ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team opened the 2022 season with a 19-6 victory over University of St. Joseph on Wednesday night.
It was the first game for the team in 726 days.
"The team played a really solid game," said new Bard coach
Rachel Vallarelli. "Everybody contributed, which I'm really happy about."
It was an eye-opener for a couple of reasons. First year
Sarah Child scored six goals in the first half, which put her into second place in the Bard record book for goals in a game. Junior
Sabrina Pavlin, hampered by injuries in her time at Bard but fully healthy now, broke the Bard record for assists in a game with seven. Child finished with six goals and an assist; Pavlin had two goals and seven assists,
Rachael Yoder scored three times and
Emma Heffron scored twice.
Roxanne Rouskas made nine saves.
"Pavlin is super creative and plays with great flair," Vallarelli said. "I would have liked for Sarah to get that record! I think the whole offense tonight was really feeling it. Defensively, we can always improve our communication. Our goalie put in a lot of extra work and it showed."
Bard plays on the road at Mount St. Mary College on Saturday.
