ALBANY, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team lost a non-league match at Sage on Tuesday night, 3-2.
Bard was down a set, up a set, and down 8-3 in the fifth and deciding set before rallying to tie it at 12-12 on a block by
Anna Skamser and
Emily Smith. Bard fought off two match points but eventually lost the fifth set, 19-17.
"Year in and year out, our matches with Sage are consistently competitive and tonight's match was no exception," Bard coach
Stefanie Carrington said. "This might have been the best full match of volleyball we've played yet this season. There were so many points in tonight's match where our team was flowing and executing and it looked like what we want our play to look like. The next step is to get into that zone consistently and stay there for entire matches at a time but we are well on our way."
Ryan Lum had an astounding night with 17 kills, a .457 hitting percentage and 21 digs. Skamser was nearly as efficient on the offensive end with 12 kills and a .346 hitting percentage.Â
Emily Smith added 10 killls, eight digs and four blocks;
Puja Clements had 17 digs and nine assists;
Adi David had 44 assists, moving her up a spot in Bard's record book for assists in a single match.
"
Ryan Lum was nearly flawless tonight; she was constantly ready on defense, she made some huge plays at the net, and she was steady as ever on serve receive," Carrington said. "
Adi David continued to distribute the ball to all of our hitters which not only allowed them to have offensive success but also served to build their confidence. For a young team, our squad is really mature in their confidence and refusal to back down. I'm excited to see what that looks like as we head into league play this weekend."
The Raptors begin Liberty League play at Union on Friday. Bard will host Skidmore on Saturday.
