"After 20 months without competition, it was great to be back in a meet and we appreciate Vassar hosting us," Bard coach
John Weitz said. "We look at this meet as a scrimage; just a chance to see where we are and what kind of racers the team has. Over half of our teams have never competed in college. This was their chance to see that racing in college is the same as racing for their club or high school team."
Olivia Dower took fourth in the 200-individual medley and the 100-butterfly.
"While we were without three of our stronger swimmers, this meet gave a few of our younger swimmers and chance to show us what they can do," Weitz said. "The women's really surprised themselves. The Vassar women are a league powerhouse with several women who will contend for spots in the NCAA Championships.
"
Olivia Dower pulled off a very difficult double," Weitz added. "In back-to-back races, she swam a solid 200-IM and a strong 100-fly. She is a very versatile swimmer who proved how valuable she is going to be to the team."
Bard next competes at St. Lawrence University on Nov. 6.
