ONEONTA, N.Y. – Senior midfielder
Melissa Rosenthal picked up five goals and two assists as the Bard College women's lacrosse team battled the elements on a snowy afternoon in upstate New York, picking up a 15-10 victory over Hartwick College Wednesday.
Despite facing an early 1-0 deficit, the Raptors (2-0) started with a strong offensive attack. Four different players scored for the Raptors in the first 14 minutes of the game, including two from sophomore midfielder
Rachael Yoder, as Bard jumped out to a 5-2 lead. Down by three, Hartwick (1-1) answered back with three goals in less than three minutes to even the score with 13 minutes remaining in the first half.
The Raptors then returned the favor, scoring three goals in two minutes as senior attack
Caleigh DeCaprio picked up her fourth goal of the season, followed by a pair of goals from Rosenthal. Following a stretch that lasted over eight minutes without a goal from either team, Hartwick's Rachel Hedden converted on a man-up opportunity late in the half to pull the Hawks within two, as the Raptors took an 8-6 lead into the intermission.
The teams traded goals early in the second half, as both teams scored three times in the first 13 minutes of the period. Yoder picked up her third of the game during that time and freshman midfielder
Madison Brown – who scored her first collegiate goal in the first half – picked up her second of the afternoon to keep it a two-goal game.
Bard then pulled away just past the midway point of the half, as the Raptors scored five unanswered goals over a 12-minute span to put the game out of reach. Rosenthal and Yoder both collected a pair of goals, and Brown scored her third of the day as the Raptors picked up an impressive road win.
Rosenthal led Bard on the day with five goals and two assists, while Yoder tallied five goals as well. DeCaprio scored once and had three assists during the game, and Brown picked up three goals. Sophomore goalkeeper
Roxanne Rouskas earned the win for Bard in net, picking up her first victory of the season.
The Raptors outshot the Hawks 31-17, picked up 26 ground balls to Hartwick's 19, and held a 20-7 edge in draw controls.
Bard returns home for their next game, taking on Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) Saturday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m.
