BOSTON, Mass. - The Bard College men's squash team lost its final two matches at the College Squash Association National Team Championships on Saturday, losing to Denison, 7-2, before falling to Washington University of St. Louis, 5-4, in a thriller.
The 59-team CSA field is divided into seven divisions: The Potter Cup (teams ranked No. 1-8 - this division decides the National Champion);Â Hoehn Cup (9-16), Summers Cup (17-24); Conroy Cup (25-32); Chaffee Cup (33-40), Serues Cup (41-48), and Hawthorn Cup (49-59).
As luck would have it, for the second year in a row, the Raptors were the lowest seed in the Chaffee Cup. The rest of the bracket was filled with teams Bard had already lost to this winter.
So on Friday, Bard lost to top-seeded Hobart, who had beaten Bard just a couple of weeks ago at the Liberty League Championships. On Saturday morning, the Raptors lost to Denison, 7-2. Denison beat Bard in January, 9-0.
On Saturday night, the Raptors battled Washington University for nearly two hours, losing 5-4. When these teams met in November at the Fordham Round Robin, Bard lost, 8-1.
The CSA Individual Championships are next weekend in Philadelphia.
