ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Bard College Director of Athletics and Recreation Kris Hall has named
Stefanie Carrington Senior Woman Administrator, it was announced Tuesday.
Carrington has been the Women's Volleyball Coach since 2013, and she was the Men's Volleyball Coach as well from 2013-16. The SWA duties will be added to her coaching responsibilities, and also to her role as Scheduling Coordinator.
NCAA membership voted to create the Senior Woman Administrator role in 1981 - the same year it added women's championships - to ensure that women were involved in the male-dominated administration of college athletics. It is not required that NCAA institutions have an SWA, but 99 percent of them do, and Kris Hall has been Bard's SWA for more than 20 years.
"Coach Carrington is a veteran staff member who has demonstrated reliable and steady leadership over the years," Hall said. "She continues to be a consistent and positive force in our department, and the athletics staff looks forward to her impact as our SWA on campus, in the Liberty League and with the NCAA as well."
"To me, a Senior Woman Administrator serves as a role model and a resource for the student-athletes, coaches, and student body at large," Carrington said. "I hope all the members of our Bard Athletics community see me as someone who is present and available to support them in whatever way I can. I'm grateful for the opportunity to take on more of a leadership role within Bard Athletics and look forward to continuing to work towards bettering our department and fostering a positive environment for all."
Before coaching at Bard, Carrington was the Head Women's Volleyball Coach at Dominican College, an NCAA Div. II institution. In her first year (2008), the team went 2-25, and in her last year (2012) they went 26-8, including 19-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The Chargers went to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history in 2012.
Carrington was the CACC Coach of the Year in both 2009 and 2012. In 2012 and 2013, she was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30, an award which recognizes the best coaches in the country under the age of 30.
Carrington graduated Magna Cum Laude from Marist College in 2007 with a degree in Economics, and a Minor in Music.
