HARTFORD, Conn. - Highlighted by a school-record performance in the 4x800m relay, the Bard College men's track and field team competed at the Trinity College Invitational on Saturday.
Â
The 4x800m team of
Matice Maino,
Hongmin Ahn,
Winston Cheney and
Rowan Forsythe ran the race alone and enjoyed the support of the other schools in attendance, as well as their teammates, as they set the school's new mark. Ahn's run was particularly impressive as his split was a new personal record, and his kick in his final 100m may have been the difference. The squad's mark of 9:09.74 topped the previous record of 9:10.95, set in 2012.
Â
The other superlative performance of the day came from
Bethuel Yebouet, who showed his speed with a third place finish in the 200m, finishing in 23.21. His mark was a new PR and is ahead of the school record of 23.48 set by
Rickey Waddell in 2016, though Yebouet's time was assisted by a strong tailwind.
Â
Bard entered a total of five runners in the open 800m, and Maino earned third place, setting a PR at 2:07.77, less than half a second off the school record. Cheney, Ahn, and Matt Arruda also set PRs, and Alex Henriquez completed Bard's delegation in the event.
Â
The team has two races left in the season, both taking place at Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute, first for next Saturday's Capital District Classic and then the Liberty League Championships the following weekend.
