MARLBORO, N.Y. - The Bard College Men's track and field team opened the season at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational, held at Marlboro (N.Y.) High School on Saturday. Several performers set new personal bests, and sophomore C.J. Benincasa extended his school record in the discus.
Benincasa threw a distance of 31.74 meters on his fourth and final attempt, easily passing his previous best of 31.05 meters, which was good for fifth place in the event.
Other strong performances included
Matice Maino running a 2:12 in the 800 meters, and
Winston Cheney setting solid opening marks in his first efforts at running the 100m and 200m. The men's 4x400 relay team, which included Cheney, Maino,
Henry Chang and Matt Arruda, finished fourth in its seven-team heat.
The team will head to Smith College next Saturday for the Carla Coffey Classic.
