Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball continues hot start to season, improves to 3-0 with win over Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Featuring a balanced attack that saw all five starters score double-digit points, the Bard College women's basketball team picked up its third victory of the season, defeating Sarah Lawrence College 76-53 Wednesday evening.

The Raptors (3-0) took control early, getting out to an 8-2 lead midway through the first. But the Gryphons (0-5) fought back and tied the game at 12 late in the quarter, thanks in large part to seven first quarter points from Camryn Davis (Moorpark, Calif.). Following the rally by Sarah Lawrence, Bard picked up a few late baskets from sophomore Jess Rylander and was able to take a 17-15 lead into the second.

The teams traded baskets in the second quarter and found themselves tied at 24 with four minutes remaining, but the Raptors were able to create separation. Bard went on a 12-4 run to end the half, with sophomore Christina Kiser scoring six points during the stretch as Bard went into the intermission holding a 36-28 lead.

The Raptors were able to extend that lead in the third, as freshman Marissa Munsell scored six consecutive points for Bard. The team continued the offensive attack throughout the quarter, scoring 21 points in the third and holding a 57-40 advantage going into the final period.

In the fourth, the Raptors continued to put up points, as Rylander made a pair of three pointers and scored seven points in the quarter. The team played solid defense throughout, and the Raptors closed the night out with a 76-53 win.

On the night, Kiser led the Raptors with 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Rylander had her best game of the season, scoring 17 while adding five rebounds and five assists. Both Munsell and junior Katie Esposito registered double-doubles, as Munsell picked up 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Esposito scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Senior Caleigh DeCaprio came just short of a double-double as well, chipping in with 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

The Raptors played a strong game inside, scoring 36 points in the paint and holding a 62-36 advantage in rebounds, while also picking up 25 second-chance points.

Bard returns to the court in nine days, as they travel out west for the Thanksgiving Classic tournament. The Raptors will take on California Institute of Technology Friday, Nov. 29 in Pasadena, Calif., with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
