ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Bard College men's soccer team saw a couple of things it hadn't seen in Liberty League play this year: Room to move the ball around, and a 1-0 Bard lead on the scoreboard.
Truth be told, particularly in the first half, possession was even between the rivals on Senior Day. But the tension really racheted up when
Dylan Jung volleyed a perfect cross from
Tristan Bevan into the Skidmore goal in the 66th minute. It was Bard's second shot on goal.
The Thoroughbreds found the urgency they were looking for immediately after Jung scored. A corner kick from Stanley Langynintuo (Tamale, Ghana) was headed in by Ted Roach (Buffalo, NY) for the equalizer in the 74th minute, and Alex Ricci (Brockport, NY) provided the dagger in the 88th minute with a beautiful header off a cross from Finn Weber (Andover, NH) to win it.
Skidmore outshot Bard, 24-6, but the Raptors got good goalkeeping from
Adel Elkafas and
Logan Leppo, and a couple of last-minute defensive stops from
Liam Gomez,
Pat Devine and
Kristian Krslovic, to keep Bard in it.
Skidmore finishes the 2019 season at 7-5-4 overall, 3-4-2 in conference play. Bard wraps up the season at 1-14-2 overall, 0-9-0 in the league.
It was the final game in the careers of Elkafas and
Angelo Chammah, who both started. They were honored in pregame ceremonies.
